I can't tell you what you're doing wrong, but it shouldn't be like this. For me, between 90 and 95% of the dirty water ends up back in the vacuum. Don't go too fast with the vacuum, so that there is time for the water to soak up. Or vacuum the wet surfaces a second time without spraying.
