The entire lower interior consists of a drawer that you can pull out and wash in the dishwasher or by hand. If you want to make many different dishes with it, you need all the optional inserts like the grill plate for steak/fish and the tray for vegetables and other things. On the included grid you can bake bread wonderfully or make fries but a fish would stick to it.
With all the options, the appliance is expensive but we use it every day.
