1. Voltcraft VC131 Digital Multimeter
The Voltcraft Handheld Multimeter VC 131 is your robust entry-level device for various measurement tasks and replaces the highly successful predecessors (VC-130 and VC-135). The device features automatic range selection and can measure both DC and AC voltages. However, for current measurement, this entry-level device is limited to measuring direct current only.
The impressive, easily readable EBTN display is clearly visible in both bright environments and darkness. With a display diagonal of 5.6 cm (2.2 inches), all digits and symbols are presented significantly larger, helping to avoid reading errors.
Subtly integrated edges protect the display, the rotary switch, and all buttons. A meticulously produced two-component housing with integrated soft rubber protection not only provides a good grip but also protects the measuring device during tougher applications.
The wide soft rubber base ensures significantly more stability when the stand is extended. The device remains in position both lying down and standing up with connected measuring leads. When stored without measuring leads, the rubber edge protection prevents slipping, even if the device is lying on the display side.
The built-in LED light makes it easier to navigate in the dark to the fuse box. An NCV sensor is integrated into the front of the housing, which detects the electromagnetic field generated by a live cable. This allows you to locate the position that leads to a break in a pinched extension cord, even through the insulation.
The measuring tips are optimally protected against contact. If necessary, a protective cap can be removed to measure, for example, in terminal blocks. The measuring lead is double insulated in two colors and features a wear indicator.
Pro
- Seems robust
- Large digits
- Easy handling

7. Value LANtest cable and PoE tester
The device detects open and short-circuited (wire/wire or wire/shield) connections. A two-line display (LEDs) sequentially indicates which pin of the RJ-45 connector from cable end A is connected to which pin of the RJ-45 connector from cable end B; manual or automatic switching is possible. In the event of a short circuit, more than two LEDs light up simultaneously. The device has two RJ-45 sockets (e.g. for testing patch cables); with the enclosed remote unit, cables laid in the wall can also be tested. For testing coaxial cables there are two adapter cables (BNC/RJ-45) with battery for the test device: 1x 9V block (not included). With the enclosed PoE check it can be tested whether there is PoE on a twisted pair line and if so which PoE mode (A = endspan / B = midspan) is used.
Attention: Do not connect the cable tester to devices during operation.
Pro
- Easy handling
- Easy to operate
- Easy to handle
Contra
- No cables included
- No battery included
- a bit much plastic
