5. Philips Hue Outdoor Motion Detectors
With the weatherproof Philips Hue Outdoor Sensor, your indoor and outdoor lighting will automatically turn on or off. Thanks to the energy-saving daylight sensor, the device only activates when there is insufficient natural light. This way, your lighting is only on when it is truly needed. The sensor has a detection angle of 160° horizontally and 80° vertically, with a range of 12 meters. You can customize the response time of under 0.5 seconds in the Hue app. The package includes a mount that can be attached either facing forward or in a corner. The sensor is powered by batteries, eliminating the need for any disruptive cables. For optimal results, a mounting height of 1.5 to 2.5 meters is recommended. Batteries included.
Pro
- Works well with motion detector
- Simple installation using screws in beams or house wall
- Easy assembly
Contra
- somewhat large
- Possibly battery
- Not quite simple in the app

6. Xiaomi Czujnik ruchu Mi Motion Sensor 2S
The Xiaomi Mi Motion Sensor 2S is an advanced motion detector designed for reliable monitoring of spaces. With a detection angle of 130 degrees and a range of up to 7 meters, this sensor provides comprehensive coverage to accurately detect movements in its surroundings. The sensor utilizes passive infrared technology (PIR) to capture changes in ambient temperature, making it particularly effective for detecting human movement. Its wireless operation allows for flexible installation in various locations without the need for complex wiring. The Xiaomi Mi Motion Sensor 2S is ideal for use in living spaces, offices, or other areas where reliable motion detection is required. It is battery-operated, which simplifies maintenance and operation while enabling easy integration into existing smart home systems.
- Detection angle of 130 degrees for comprehensive coverage
- Range of up to 7 meters for precise motion detection
- Passive infrared technology (PIR) for high sensitivity
- Wireless operation for flexible installation options.

7. Aqara FP2
The Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 uses state-of-the-art millimetre wave radar technology that can accurately detect the presence of people, even with slight movements. This technology ensures the continuity and stability of the smart device. It can also control other smart home devices through ecosystems such as Apple Home to achieve wider applications. It has features such as human fall detection and a built-in light sensor. Zone positioning: It offers significant advantages over traditional PIR infrared motion detectors as a single radar sensor can be used to monitor rooms of up to approximately 40 m². Furthermore, you can divide the room into up to 30 zones, e.g. sofa, bed or desk. In addition, you can set up individual automation for each zone. It's like using several PIR motion sensors at the same time with one presence sensor, FP2. Multi-person detection: Up to 5 target persons can be detected at the same time. The result is that the system not only divides the room, but also automatically reacts to the position of the different people without interfering with each other. Ultra-high precision: privacy and detection accuracy are taken into account. It is able to detect non-inductive signal detection without collecting real images. Automation can generally be done locally. Millimetre wave radar technology is more stable than detection by infrared sensors, even when you are sitting or sleeping.
Pro
- Presence in zones: Rapid detection, less rapid release when leaving the zone
- Division into zones works well. Recognises presence even at difficult angles
- Precise detection
Contra
- App for configuring the room is not always intuitive to use
- Difficult to configure without articles in forums
- Often sees "ghosts"

8. Philips Hue motion sensor
The motion detector recognises whether someone enters a dark room or leaves an illuminated room. In the first case, it activates the light with the brightness and colour temperature you have programmed. So if, for example, the children have to go to the loo at night, they are not dazzled by bright light but are guided through the corridors by soft lighting. In the second case, when someone leaves a room and no one is moving around, the sensor gradually dims the light by 50 per cent before switching it off completely. Requires a Philips Hue bridge.
Pro
- Magnetic attachment, temperature sensor, small
- works immediately and without specialised magic tricks
- Simple installation / integration into existing Hue environment
Contra
- A little too expensive
- Integrated temperature and lux display, but not displayed in the Hue app
- Not to be used purely as a brightness sensor

9. Steinel Sensiq S
Steinel, the evolution of perfection. The sensIQ S is as flawless as its larger counterpart. Suitable for both outdoor and indoor use, it is ideal for entrances and loading ramps, with a mounting height of up to 5 meters. It features a 4-fold sensor system for optimal monitoring within a 3x100° detection angle, a range of 20 meters (tangential), and precise range adjustment in 3 independent directions. Remote control and corner wall mount included.

10. Aqara Motion Sensor P1
The P1 motion sensor detects body movements and the state of ambient light. When people move or the state of ambient light changes in the detected areas, the motion sensor sends a notification to the Aqara Home App via the connected Aqara Zigbee 3.0 Hub or connects with other devices.
Configurable Detection Timeout: The detection timeout can be configured without hardware modification. Simply set any time period from 1 to 200 seconds, confirm it by pressing the device button, and the P1 will no longer be stuck for one minute as before. Please note: Reducing the detection timeout will result in shorter battery life.
5-Year Battery Life: Thanks to energy-saving technologies and improved batteries, the P1 motion sensor can now achieve a record-breaking battery life of five years, allowing it to last even in particularly low temperatures or with rapid detection timeouts.
Comprehensive Compatibility: Compatible with the most popular smart home ecosystems. HomeKit, Alexa, IFTTT, and more are supported. Matter support will be available as an OTA update for Aqara hubs following the official release of the specification.
Adjustable Sensitivity (Distance): Users can set how sensitive the sensor should be. Three sensitivity modes (high, medium, and low) relate to the distance from which the sensor is triggered, helping to reduce false alarms and making installation more flexible.
Built-in Light Sensor: The built-in light sensor in the P1 can be used to control lighting more accurately. For example, turn on the light only when it is dark and motion is detected, saving energy and extending the lifespan of the bulbs.
