The open-world role-playing game "Kingdom Come: Deliverance" is officially getting a sequel this year. The second instalment continues the story of Henry in medieval Bohemia.

Fans have been waiting a long time for this: "Kingdom Come: Deliverance II" is really coming - and will be released this year. In a livestream on Thursday evening, the Czech developer studio Warhorse announced the new action role-playing game and showed some video sequences and commented gameplay scenes.

An exact release date is not yet known, Warhorse only states that "Kingdom Come: Deliverance II" will be released this year. The game will be available for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X.

Heinrich becomes more deeply involved in the civil war

"Kingdom Come: Deliverance II" starts where part one ends: The game puts you back in the role of the blacksmith's son Henrich in 15th century Bohemia. He has found his place in life at the end of the first part and is now drawn deeper into the warlike conflict between King Wenceslas and his half-brother Sigismund.

This civil war seems to play a larger role in "Kingdom Come: Deliverance II" according to the trailer. Several sieges, burning towns, battles and hanged people can be seen, suggesting that the second instalment could be even darker than its predecessor. The game has been given a USK 16+ rating and a PEGI 18+ rating.

In addition to Heinrich, other characters familiar from the first instalment are also returning. The trailer features Hans Capon and Markwart von Aulitz, for example. You can watch the English reveal trailer for yourself here:

Two regions and new weapons

Players can explore two new maps which, according to Warhorse, are twice as large as the open world of "Kingdom Come: Deliverance". They depict two regions in present-day Czechia: the area around Trosky Castle, which can be seen in the trailer, and the landscape around the town of Kutná Hora. The developer studio states that you can explore the maps freely, just like in the first instalment. You will move through beautifully designed medieval landscapes and interact with characters in poor huts, in busy villages and at royal receptions. Part two follows in the footsteps of its predecessor. According to Warhorse, however, it is not necessary to have played the first part to get to grips with the game.

The combat system from the first game, inspired by medieval martial arts, is said to have become a little more accessible. In addition to the previous large selection of weapons, there are now also crossbows and the first, simple firearms.

What kind of game is the first "Kingdom Come: Deliverance"?

"Kingdom Come: Deliverance" was released in February 2018 and has sold more than six million copies, according to the developer studio. Unlike many other role-playing games, the game sticks to its historical setting: there is no magic or dragons, for example. The open game world recreates a real Bohemian region including villages and a monastery in 1403.

You play as Heinrich, the son of a blacksmith whose village is destroyed by a raid in the aftermath of a civil war. Heinrich, whose skills have so far been limited to sleeping late and visiting taverns, has to build a new life for himself. He performs simple tasks for the authorities, has to adhere to strict rules in the local monastery, befriends the castle lord's son and ultimately uncovers a closely guarded secret about his family.

As is typical of role-playing games, there is a great deal of freedom in terms of play style. It is possible to play as a stealthy thief, an herbalist or an archer. The game shines with its varied quests and immersion in the medieval world.
