Ortovox "Thermovent Shortpants": 95 per cent merino wool - no cutting waste

Light and warm: Ortovox combines two important components for long days in the mountains in the "Thermovent Shortpants". What's more, there are practically no cutting waste during production. The Bavarian brand recently presented the new base layer in Munich.
The clothes you put on first and take off last determine your warmth and well-being on long days in the mountains. The importance of underwear is correspondingly high. Or baselayers, as they are now called. The Bavarian brand Ortovox combines lightness and warmth with its Thermovent line. The "Thermovent Shortpants" were recently honoured with an award at the ISPO sports trade fair in Munich.

The pants are made of 95 per cent merino wool and are characterised by their good warmth-to-weight ratio and intelligent 3D body mapping with a breathable mesh structure on the thighs. This scanning technology allows items or garments to be customised to fit the human form. According to the manufacturer, the flat knitting technique used to produce the trousers does not cause any cutting waste during production, making the product more sustainable. Only as much fabric is knitted as is actually needed.
A special, denser knitted structure in the knee area ensures warm joints and allows a natural range of movement. The expert jury writes: "For long missions in harsh weather, good functional underwear cannot be valued enough: A high proportion of merino wool and well thought-out 3D body mapping make the Ortovox Thermovent Shortpants comfortable, warm, light and environmentally friendly. The stretchy mesh structure on the thighs is ideal for aerobic activities, while this base layer keeps the body warm overall."
According to Ortovox, the trousers are comfortable to wear thanks to the elasticated waistband and stretchy seams. In addition, the length is perfect in combination with ski socks, as the trousers create less volume and still don't ride up when moving. The Ortovox Thermovent Shortpants are available in sizes XS to XL for women and S to XXL for men.
Mulesing-free merino wool
To prevent flies from laying eggs in the folds of the merino sheep's skin, the wrinkled skin on the lambs' hindquarters is cut off with sharp scissors without anaesthetic. This technique is called mulesing and is now only practised in Australia. Ortovox merino wool comes from Tasmania and, according to the manufacturer, is 100 per cent mulesing-free.
The Thermovent Shortpants will be launched in October 2024 and cost around 130 francs.
Our purchasing department will clarify whether we will have this product in our range.
