The iBasso Nunchaku is an innovative portable DAC and headphone amplifier that offers excellent sound characteristics through the combination of tube and Class-AB amplification. Two directly heated Raytheon JAN6418 vacuum tubes, paired with a 22.5V anode voltage, provide a warm, harmonious sound with an analog character. Alternatively, the Class-AB mode offers a more precise, dynamic sound reproduction with high resolution. Switching between the two amplification modes allows for flexible adaptation to different music styles and personal preferences. For the highest signal purity and excellent audio quality, iBasso employs a dual-DAC design with two Cirrus Logic CS43198 chips. These deliver outstanding detail fidelity, a high dynamic range of up to 130 dB, and low-distortion playback. With a maximum output power of 525 mW at 32 Ohms in tube mode and 450 mW in Class-AB mode, the Nunchaku easily drives both sensitive in-ear monitors and demanding headphones. The analog volume control via a JRC hardware controller minimizes noise and improves the signal-to-noise ratio. A 0.96-inch OLED display shows all relevant operating information, while the multifunctional rotary knob allows for intuitive operation. In addition to physical controls, a variety of sound parameters can be adjusted through the iBasso UAC Android app. The PORON vibration damping in the housing reduces microphonic effects of the tubes and ensures consistently high sound quality. With balanced 4.4 mm and unbalanced 3.5 mm outputs, along with a compact design weighing only 50 grams, the iBasso Nunchaku combines high-end audio quality with maximum mobility.
