UDIMM ECC memory and RDIMM (Registered) server memory cannot be used together. Therefore, when upgrading, you should know which memory is already present or upgrade entirely to RDIMM memory.

Principles of Memory Configuration:

• The memory slots are organized in groups of 3.
• Each group of 3 can have a maximum of 2 slots for UDIMM ECC memory.
• Each group of 3 can have a maximum of 2 slots for 4Rank RDIMM memory.
• The different groups of 3 slots do not need to have the same capacities.
• Only the memory slots where the respective CPU is present can be used.

Memory Configuration for Good System Performance:

• Distribute the memory evenly across the memory slots and evenly across the CPUs.
• With 3 identical memory modules per group of 3 slots, performance can be up to three times faster compared to a configuration of the group of 3 slots with only one memory module.
• If more than one CPU is present, the memory should be configured identically (mirrored to the other CPU) per CPU.
