Thanks for the question: I am currently at the same point: defective DS1515+ and potential purchase of DS 1019+. I have all five HDD slots in use for two shares. What are the experiences with the migration? According to my interpretation of ElFunghi's link, this should not be so easy to do. Merci for feedback.
According to the following Youtube Video this is certainly possible: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPU_XEepVfM
My DS1019, equipped as Raid 5 with 2 Seagate Ironwolf 8TB and 2 WD 8TB Red and an 8TB HGST as hotspare consumes 48W with the following services activated, FTP(S) rsync, NTP, SMB, AFP, NFS, Bonjour, Hyper backup, etc.
Probably not, I don't know the Shield.
The Synology only has USB host ports, i.e. you can connect other USB HDDs/sticks etc. to the Synology.
