The distance from the projector to the screen is 2.80m and the screen has a diameter of 1.70m which is about 66 inches. Is it possible to adjust the image from the beamer to the screen so that it fits? (The distance from the beamer to the screen cannot be changed).

No, you can't. At 280cm you get a 105" picture. Simply calculate the distance by 2.66...
