Hello all... A question was asked the: Seagate Exos X20 , HDD, SATA, /s cache, 3.5 inch, 512e/4KN (20 TB, 3.5") HDD already tested for compatibility with a Synology NAS DS1621+ unfortunately I can't find any information about this HDD in the forum as well as on Synology's homepage.... You can install any hard disk in your NAS, there are no basic restrictions.
There is a difference between NAS and non-NAS hard drives.
If there is a read error, the NAS hard disk will immediately report it and the controller will classify it as faulty.
A non-NAS hard disk will try to read the defective sector up to 20 times and only then report a read error.
This is part of the hard disk firmware.
This causes a long delay, which is undesirable and slows down the whole system.
But only in the case of a defect.
