The manufacturer and other sites mention M.2 (x4) slots for this product, but I can't find this anywhere in the specifications here at Digitec. Is this a mistake or is it not possible to install an M.2 SSD with this motherboard?

Yes, they're simply under the metal plates (which also act as heat sinks for the SSDs). 4 slots
