would like to connect the hard drive to an imac via FireWire. I don't have Thunderbolt or usb3. I would like to share the hard drive with my internal (almost full) 2TB HD. Is that possible ?

I don't quite understand the question... So you can connect the hard drive to a PC or Mac either via USB 3.0, FireWire800, FireWire400 or eSATA. Do you have one of these ports on your iMac?
