You can register with DeLonghi with the purchase/order receipt without the serial number. 
I had the same problem, delivery was postponed twice. What has not been solved for me is that DeLonghi issues the warranty from the date of purchase instead of the date of delivery. The former must apply. Unfortunately, customer service has not yet reacted to this.
